What is Music Therapy

What Is Music Therapy?
A music therapist uses music to help engage their clients. The session is a time when music becomes the ground for communication.  For clients that have limited vocabulary, no speech, or problems expressing feelings, the therapist takes away the need for words and replaces this with improvised music.

It is not a way of teaching somebody to play, but encouraging them to create a musical language with which to communicate. Music therapy can either take place in groups or on a one-to-one basis depending on the needs of the individual.
