Music therapy is about using music to engage clients. Contrary to what is sometimes assumed, we do not teach how to play a musical instrument. Instead, the aim of each session is to use music as a means for communication. We engage clients by using the sounds and rhythm created by instruments. Instead of words, the music becomes the means of communication. Clients are encouraged to express their feelings and thoughts by using an improvised, musical language.
We have a highly experienced team of qualified and trained music therapy specialists. Collectively we have over 20 years of experience in the field, and we have been providing our service for Banchory for over 13 years. The role is highly skilled, which is why our therapists are qualified, as well as HPC registered and members of the BAPMT (British Association of Professional Music Therapists).
Music therapy has proven benefits for a wide variety of individuals with differing needs. It is especially suitable for individuals who have a limited vocabulary, or those who are unable to communicate well verbally or who find communication difficult. Because of this, it is effective for individuals with sensory needs, those on the autistic spectrum, people who suffer from social isolation, lack of confidence or low self-esteem, and those with communication difficulties. It can also be used for some individuals with mental health problems and neurological conditions. Music therapy is a great way of supporting individuals and groups to communicate and express themselves more openly.
Many of our clients are referred to us. There are many reasons for this, but they include limited vocabulary, difficulties in communicating and interacting, developing audio and visual awareness, increasing attention span or developing individuality and creativity. Additionally, our music therapy sessions help with social interaction, turn taking, increased listening, confidence building, and personal communication. If you are near Banchory and you feel we can help in these areas, please contact us.
Our services are suitable for a wide variety of locations and situations. We work with individuals and groups. Our music therapy is available for schools, hospitals, residential care homes, day centres and private practices in and near Banchory.
